The Most Bizarre Arrest Experience – Georgi Kalchev

First, I want to state clearly that I do not know Destiny Wilcox, have never met her or contacted her in any way, and have never spoken to her. I don’t even know what she looks like and she is a total stranger to me. I didn’t even know her apt. number until a police officer gave it to me.

I often visit Sault Ste Marie, Canada and I’ve enjoyed in in the past. On May, 2026 I went there and had lunch at the Mystery restaurant on Queen’s st., saw a movie at the Station mall movie theater and visited RJ supermarket (all of them on my credit card statement). Then I went and checked into a hotel I found online to spend some more time in the city. I was looking out the window of my room and saw a police car. Soon the policemen came upstairs and arrested me. I felt like a Jew during the Holocaust, as I had no clue what it is about.

Later on, they told me it is about following Destiny Wilcox. I don’t know her at all and how would I have known that she would be in that hotel? My phone was seized by the police, but they didn’t find any evidence on it—no traces of any calls to her, emails or following. I don’t know any of her contacts or social media; I have never messaged her in any shape or form. The Canadian police apparently had been in touch with Sault Ste. Marie, MI police and claimed loudly that I had 5 or 6 contacts with her in Soo, MI. I did not know what they were talking about. Later, I found out from police reports that the nature of those contacts was the following. I lived in the same building in West Pier apts. in the Soo, MI as Destiny Wilcox. My assigned garage appears to be opposite of her window in the first floor. I was simply going to my garage to use my car, not to her window. She alleges I stared at her window (which I didn’t) or came close to her window when parking my car. In another instance, she claims I left a plant in front of her window, but she never saw me and she is sure it was me. Further, she alleges I dropped off another resident in front of her window, but she couldn’t name them and that resident has never been identified for questioning. This is the kind of ‘contact’ she is talking about, of which I was not even aware. Even the police reports state that I never contacted her. But that was enough for Canadian police to allege contacts and claim that I followed her into Soo, Canada without any evidence and just based on her word, and without verifying when she checked in. I felt I was arrested just for checking into a hotel.

The police wrote I could not produce a movie ticket for the movie I’ve seen. When they arrested me at the hotel door, I didn’t have a chance to take my jacket with me and the ticket remained in the jacket in the hotel room. I later retrieved the ticket and have it now. Further, Canadian police claimed I’ve been warned in MI not to contact her. I only received one phone call from Officer Rand from MI police stating there were complaints from her apartment, there was no crime, and not to contact her. I have never contacted her. There haven’t been any witnesses to any of her accusations. Officer Rand has correctly recorded in his police report that I stated I do not know her. I see in the police reports that when an officer told her there was nothing criminal, she replied that I look ‘creepy’ and that’s all the officer needed to know. After the officer told her there was nothing criminal, she kept on filing reports. I had not been warned multiple times, as the Canadian police seemed to believe and is indicated in the news story published by Soo Leader.

This process involved communication between the police on both sides of the border on a Sunday, which might not have been the most effective. Soo, MI police confirmed that there were complaints from that woman, but they have never been proven to be harassment. Canadian police probably didn’t even know that I lived in the same building as the accuser and I was present there as a resident. It wasn’t a ‘coincidence’ I was there, I was residing there. In the hotel, I did not make contact with any such person.

After being released from custody, I came back to the US. On May 31, 2026 I was arrested just for walking by the building, in which I live and going to West Pier burger. Apparently, Destiny Wilcox complained again and took a video of me walking to my garage. I didn’t realize at the time that just walking to and from my garage can be considered a violation of the order to stay away from her. To me, that was a normal part of living in the building.

I couldn’t believe that I was charged for misdemeanor stalking for such simple actions, as walking to my garage. Going through the legal process was tough. I had to face uncertainty and significant legal expenses. And complications for my employment. Everybody assumes that you have done something wrong if you got arrested. How do you explain that you don’t even know your accuser? I felt I had to prove I am innocent against the baseless accusations of a stranger with whom I haven’t had any relationship. The arrests got publicity on the internet before any investigation. When I apply for employment, any future employer can see them without knowing the full story or dismissal of the charge. It may affect my future employment prospects. Moreover, Destiny Wilcox has sent emails to my employer, which constitute slander. She can make up any stories, which have been unexamined. As a result of that, I had to leave West Pier apts. Even my current landlord had heard of the allegations. Anyone can look it up online. That’s how one can fall victim to frivolous accusations.

I heard that Rhonda Amble, manager of West Pier apts., has stated that Destiny Wilcox is now accusing another resident of stalking. She appears to have left the Chicago area also accusing someone of the same. Apparently, she carries those unfounded fears with her.

We were lucky that the prosecutor in Sault Ste Marie, MI assessed the evidence objectively and dismissed the case due to lack of evidence. He evaluated all allegations, including the ones in Canada. Indeed, America is a country based on freedom and nobody’s rights should be infringed with false accusations. It is reassuring to know that the prosecutor cares strongly about truth and justice. I can be thankful to the American legal system that functions to protect our rights. Frivolous and false accusations have to examined and tested for justice to prevail. When we say America is based on freedom, this is not just idle talk. This is a true principle, by which the lawyer, prosecutor and other officers of the Court abide.

It is bizarre, though, that I was arrested for stalking somebody I don’t even know and have never had any relationship with or interest in (and without digital evidence or witnesses). If I had any interest, I would have at least contacted her, and I have never contacted her or sought contact with her. It is all based on her word. I was arrested in a hotel, which is a public space, not at her place of residence or work. I didn’t know I can be arrested in Canada just for checking into a hotel. I was in my hotel room, I was not loitering. There is no way I would have known who else is in the hotel. And how would I follow someone when I do not even know her car, have no access to her car and there are absolutely no traces on my phone of following her? My lawyer states that this a case that should have never been brought up. Should I also add that I have no prior criminal record. The way she was determined to slander me multiple times to police, employer and landlord looks more like a mission to destroy my reputation rather than a genuine complaint.
